We will be going on a few different field trips this year. The first one will be at the beginning of the year when we are focusing on our community in Social Studies. Students will be learning about what makes a community. They will learn about our school, our neighborhood, and important places and people that make a community a whole. We will be visiting a local Police Station and Fire Department at the end of the Unit. We will need parent volunteers to chaperone this trip, so if you would like to do so please visit the contact page and put your name in!
We will be raising Baby Chicks
Our students will have the opportunity to raise baby chicks in the Spring. They will get a first hand experience to learn about living things and their needs to survive. We will be studying them and keeping a daily journal in our classroom. Students will explore science by making observations, inquiring about the baby chicks, and learning responsibility. We will have the baby chicks in our classroom for about a month. After which if you would like to take any baby chicks home, please contact me so that we can make any arrangements, otherwise they will go back to their farm to be raised.
School Garden
We also will be participating in a weekly visit to our school garden. Students will learn about nature, agriculture, nutrition, and the environment. Students will also learn from our Garden Docent who will teach them how to plant flowers, vegetables, trees, plants, as well as teach them about what they need to survive. This is a great way for our students to be interactive while they learn. *Parent Volunteers are always welcome on Garden Days.
